This is a picture of the very closed border between Armenia and the odd piece of land squeezed between Armenia and Turkey that forms the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan:
I suppose I could have pushed it and tried to get closer to take the above picture, but an Armenian that saw me heading down this way had already waved me off and the soldiers at the border were staring rather intently down the barrels of their guns at us. As I had my Italian with me, I decided that on this day discretion was the better part of valor.
I’d love to visit Nakhchivan (also known as Nakhijevan) someday…
Very gallant of you, although fearless for your own safety, to keep Eleonora out of harm’s way.
I would love to go there one day! We could go via Azerbaijan if we planned it, no?
I know a guy that crossed in over the Turkish border, which is probably the best way. To fly in from Azerbaijan is quite expensive for foreigners. Of course, you would need to have the visa sorted out before crossing in from Turkey…
