The Silver Queen was created in 1957 as a tribute to the miners and the mining industry of Virginia City. Much of the silver in the 3,261 silver dollars came from local mines.

The Silver Queen can be seen today in the saloon of the appropriately named Silver Queen Hotel in Virginia City.
